0.90 poundsIn the waning years of
the 1890s, Charles Wesley Winchester was the presiding elder in the
Methodist Episcopal Church’s Corning District, situated in New York near the
Pennsylvania state line, and responsible for an area that included portions of
both states. As he neared the end of his appointment there, he acceded to
multiple requests from parishioners to publish a volume of his sermons. The
Wells of Salvation is the result. According to him, it was intended
primarily for the people on his district, coming from “an obscure preacher.”
Little-known he may be— compared to the great Methodist names of the era— but a
glance will confirm that he was a capable pulpiteer, and served no small,
insignificant charge. He was talented and Spirit-filled enough to catch the
attention of the illustrious Daniel Steele, who provided the
Introduction to the book. This is a volume worthy of careful perusal. Its
spirit of optimism will refresh the soul.
